Eggciting new egg grading game
THIS month we at Poul- try Hub Australia are proud to announce we have released our first app!
Called Eggit, the game allows the player to grade eggs at different degrees of difficulty.
It has been released on both the App Store and Google Play and will play a role in our job ready training.
Very ‘eggciting’!
The game simulates an egg grading process, whereby different types of eggs are sorted as they
roll past on a conveyor. Players must identify the cracked, dirty, mis- shaped, undersized or oversized eggs and move
them to the appropriate ‘buckets’ while leav- ing the good eggs to go through to packing.
The game features a tu- torial mode that discuss- es the different types of eggs and where they end up, an endurance mode that speeds up as the player scores and a ‘mad minute’ mode where the player has one minute to score as many points as possible.
Eggit has been designed principally to teach school students about food safety and quality in the egg industry.
It is compatible with all platforms and can be eas- ily integrated by educa- tors into the classroom environment.
It provides a good springboard for discus-
sions around food pro- duction, food safety and quality assurance.
This app is a rebuild of the previous Poul- try CRC’s Egg Grab N Grade.
We have also been busy with several other educa- tion activities, which has increased our enthusiasm for our new full-time ed- ucation officer who will start with us over coming weeks (more about that next issue).
We have attended an event in South Austral- ia and run a researcher workshop in science com- munication – both great events that have received excellent feedback.
Lastly, I would like to highlight there are a number of poultry posi- tions currently being advertised on our clas- sifieds page.
We encourage anyone who is interested in ap- plying to contact the businesses directly to ask any questions.
This is a free service we provide to the Australian poultry industry, so don’t hesitate to contact us at poultryhub@une.edu.au if you have a position va- cant.
