Streamlined export legislation passes Parliament
BULGARIA’S food safety agency authorities have reported two new outbreaks of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu in the southern part of the Balkan country.
One of the new out- breaks was found at a farm with more than 55,000 egg-laying hens in Trilistnik, near the city of Plovdiv.
The other outbreak was reported at a farm with
more than 11,000 ducks in Padarsko, also near Plovdiv.
All the hens and ducks at the two farms would be culled, the country’s food agency said.
It said a 3km protection zone had been set around the farms and the move- ment of domestic, wild and other birds and has been banned within it, as has the sale of eggs and poultry.
THE passing of the Export Control Bill 2019 will im- prove the legislative framework and help increase market ac- cess for Australian exports.
Agriculture, fisher- ies and forestry ex- ports are an economic powerhouse for Aus- tralia, expected to be worth about $51 bil- lion in 2019-20.
Minister for Agricul- ture David Littleproud said the new legisla- tion would safeguard Australia’s reputation as a reliable, high- quality source of ex- ports.
“The government is committed to growing Australia’s agricultur- al sector and market access through ex- ports,” he said.
“The streamlining of export legislation will support the export of a broader range of prod- ucts produced by our farmers.
“The new Bill will become the central pillar of the new agri- cultural export frame- work.
“It will make the leg- islation easier to use while maintaining our commitment to meet- ing importing country requirements.”
The Bill removes du- plication and makes export provisions con- sistent across com- modities where pos- sible.
“Commodity spe- cific export rules are currently being draft- ed to support the Bill and will be shared with stakeholders as they are developed,” Minister Littleproud said.
“There is much to do before the new export legislation commenc- es early next year and my department is con- tinuing to work close- ly with exporters and trading partners.”
